I have always loved traveling.
Yesterday, I decided to go for a walk along the Cypress Creek, which runs behind the apartment complex where I live.
Two hours later, I found my self emerging out of the woods around FM1960 and Hardy Road. What I found interesting was that I never thought about time or felt tired while I was in the woods, enjoying everything from watching a crane and a blue heron take to flight to an SUV abandoned and stripped in the middle of the forest.
It took me another hour to walk back home via the streets where traffic ran as usual. I was thoroughly relaxed and invigorated. That is when I realized that it is not so much travel that I enjoy, it is being in touch with Nature, and being by myself that I enjoy more than anything.
All my travelling includes being in touch with Nature. One of my most memorable flights was when I flew from Chicago to Atlanta during a storm, after having spent more than two hours sitting on the runway at O’hare airport. I enjoyed the snow coming down from my airplane window, and later the “roller coaster” ride through the turbulance.
There is something about being in Nature that I find soothing to the soul. I am interested in the journey, whether it is across the continent or across the city.
I started this blog because I have always enjoyed a nomadic lifestyle. I guess it has something to do with the fact that my family was constantly moving when I was growing up. We had lived in six different cities before I started Kindergarten, and took a 25 days road trip via trains, buses, boats, and ships to move to a different country before I was in middle school, and then flew half way across the globe to attend college before I was twenty.
This blog has given me opportunities to know myself and share my journey with others, and I know I have inspired a few people along the way to investigate and pursue their own longings for a nomadic life, for which I am grateful.
I know I haven’t been writing regularly, and it is because I have been doing a lot of soul searching. As I am beginning to get to know myself better and form a better picture of what I want the rest of my life to be like, I am making changes to accommodate my dream of being a nomad. I will continue to share my journey and the lessons learned, along with the victories and setbacks as I go, hopefully, more frequently. I am also planning a face lift for the blog.
Stay tuned, but don’t hold your breath.
