What would I do if I knew I only had six months to live? I’d type faster. ~ Issac Asimov
I saw the above quote on my son’s Google Homepage, and it got me thinking. What would I do? Unlike Dr Asimov, I am not tuned into my life’s purpose, let alone living it. Heck, for the most part, I am not even focused on it. I am not even sure if I know what it is, even though my mentor, the illustrious Barbara Winter, insists that I do. (You ALWAYS know your life’s purpose. you may not be aware of it, but you always know it)
The more I thought about it, more I realized that I was wasting my life away. I decided to do something about it. And what better way to start than to get your act together, so you can put it on.
First things first, if I am going to be gone in six months, I sure wouldn’t want my loved one to carry any more burden (literally) than they have to. When I checked this morning upon waking up, I came in at 184.2 pounds in my birthday suit. That’s about 45 pounds more than I would like to carry myself or have my loved ones to carry after I’m gone. (Note: I am a Muslim, and in our tradition of Islam, the loved ones literally carry the coffin on their shared shoulders to the grave)
So I am taking it upon myself to lighten the load, both on my living legs and upon my loved ones, should I be gone.
So here are the vital statistics at the beginning of this journey with six months left in the year 2010.
Current weight: 184 lbs.
Current waist size 38+” I say that because, I barely managed to fit into a size 38″ pants which my wife bought for me last month, that I insisted were too big for me.
So how do I intend to do this? Stay tuned while I go for a walk and try to figure it out.
Good luck with the weight loss. We were in great shape while in India, Nepal, Sri Lanka. Then we started traveling in Europe and did a cruise. We are both now overweight too and unhappy about not being as fit as we should be. I never thought it possible to gain 15 pounds in 6 weeks, but I did. Dave has gained more. We are now working out like crazy this summer. It is not so much as a vanity Hollywood type thing. We just need to take care of our bodies more and we feel better and more energetic when we are fit. It is so easy in this western world to indulge and we certainly did during these past 6 weeks.
We will help to motivate each other:)
If I had 6 weeks to live? I would keep doing what I am doing. For the first time, Dave and I feel that we have found our purpose. We just want to explore and share our experiences and let people know about the wonderful people out there in the world. People are no different from one another all around the world. We all want to love, live and be happy.
Thanks for sharing.
I am not going for “weight loss” this time. My goal is to create a healthy and agile body that I can be happy with and happy in. As a matter of fact, while I know that I will lose some weight, and I have a goal of where I want to be, the focus is not on weight loss and tossed the scale in the back of the closet right after weighed in. I am focusing on becoming healthy. Every time I lost weight, I gained it back. I guess something ab out the human psyche. If we lose something, the subconscious will go looking for it till it finds it.
I am working on creating my ideal body which is a 30″ waist with a body weight somewhere around 140 lbs. I am preparing for my Ultimate goal of climbing Mt Everest.
Rasheed, I don’t know what your plans are, but I would enthusiastically recommend the Beachbody line of products. Particularly if you aren’t into spending time at a gym or exercising for hours a day, their 10 Minute Trainer is a great program. I started it at the end of June and have lost just over 10 pounds and a total of 7 inches (waist, hips and thighs). No wacky diet, no fancy equipment. But it will kick your backside for those ten minutes.
And I am in no way affiliated with them. Don’t get a commission or anything. Just have seen a huge difference in my body, my energy levels and how I feel (even with a sluggish thyroid), that I recommend them.
My husband is doing their more intense/more involved P90 program and seeing similar results. He’s down from 235 to just over 200 (211, I think), in 45 days.
Good luck with your quest. Keep us posted. And I can’t wait to spend some time digging into your blog (got here via Joyfully Jobless).
Hey Mary, welcome to the Present Day Nomads community.
Thanks for your recommendation, I’ll look into it. I will posting posting something about my plan in an upcoming post, you keep your eyes peeled.
And congrats to you and your hubby for the success you’re enjoying.
